Five Things Friday: December 14

Hi Friends,

From Vancouver to Toronto here are the highlights of this incredible week! ๐Ÿ˜„

Big Smiles in Vancity

These girls are incredible. I had so much during my time in Vancouver thanks to these beautiful souls ๐Ÿ˜Š thanks for all the heart-to-hearts and memories. โค๏ธSee you soon.

Charlie!

How cute is this little Amore? This is little Char, you have definitely seen her on my blog before, definitely on my Instagram and even in a couple of YouTube videos. She is one of my favourite dogs I have ever met and always puts such a big smile on my face ๐Ÿ˜Š I hope one day I can get a dog as special as her.

A Perfect Birthday

My Birthday was perfect! Truly I could not imagine a better day than what it was – I actually spent it with you guys in a vlog ๐Ÿ™‚ you can check it out here. When I pictured my birthday in Fall I just imagined I would get to go ice skating outside and guess what? It manifested ๐Ÿ˜Šโœจ Special thanks to my amazing friend Nicole for ice skating with me (even though she is not a fan). Girl, you slayed – boots in parka and all!ย

Setting Intentions

This 2 month solo trip I have been on has really helped me carve out what I want 2019 to look like for myself. It’s going to be a big year, full of big changes, but I couldn’t be happier than for what’s to come. Let’s go 27! ๐Ÿฅณ

Laughter, Smiles & Nostalgia

This is a photo of an old letter to Santa my Dad found and sent me this week. I found it hilarious and I think you will too ๐Ÿ˜

Happy Holidays Everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š

Five Things Friday: October 26

Hi Friends,

My apologies on the delay in this week’s #FiveThingsFriday. I have taken the week to do a lot of self-reflection at Rythmia Life Advancement Center in Costa Rica. I felt like I needed to take some time offline, so that is why I haven’t posted much on social media. However, I am back! Still in Costa Rica, but ready and refreshed to get writing and posting again ๐Ÿ˜Šย Here are the highlights from my incredible week:

A night in Panama City

I spent Saturday night in a very funky hotel in Panama City called Riande Granada Urban Hotel. I booked this pretty last minute on hoteltonight.com and was impressed. I had a 24 hour layover I wanted to be comfortable and allow myself some space to collect myself before I was to be spending an intense week in Costa Rica – so it was perfect. I treated myself to a nice vegan dinner at The Loving Hut (highly recommend it) ๐ŸŒฟ and then spent the evening in my hotel room watching the finale of Shane Dawson’s latest series ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ’ป I definitely need to check myself in for a cozy night at a hotel more often! It was perfect for some much needed me-time and it set the tone for the rest of the week.

Welcome to Rythmia

Honestly before arriving to Rythmia I had tons of thoughts running through my head and tons of emotions running through my body… I knew the week ahead of me would be challenging, but little did I know at the time it would become one of the best weeks of my life this far. I can’t wait to share more of my experiences with you in #Zovember (30 videos in 30 days on my YouTube channel).

The Journey Within

For those of you who don’t know what I was specifically up to at Rythmia it was a lot of yoga, meditation, breathwork and plant medicine ๐ŸŒฟ I had the life-changing opportunity of partaking in 4 Ayahuasca ceremonies with Shaman from all over the world ๐ŸŒŽ Ayahuasca is an ancient plant medicine from the Amazon jungle that has been used for over 5000 years to heal people: mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It gives one the opportunity to travel within the deepest parts of their mind, body and soul to allow great healing and soul-reconnection ๐ŸŒป I took the journey within and it worked. If you are curious about Ayahuasca, I recommend the free documentary The Reality of Truth with Michelle Rodriguez or the book Sh!t The Moon Said by Gerard Armond Powell.

Facing Yourself

It takes great bravery to face yourself and this is one of the greatest lessons I learned this week at Rythmia. Ayahuasca allows you to face your greatest fears and blocks right in the face – and let me tell you is that ever frightening ๐Ÿ˜ซbut the storms I faced always passed, and what is now left of those blocks and limiting beliefs is only a distant memory of what once was. The darkness and negative thought-processes that I once had, even just one week ago, no longer exist in my mind. I realized this week how brave I really am and that is something no one can take from me, not even my own mind.

Hugs & Holding Hands

It has been many years since I have been in a relationship or living near my family… so in that way I haven’t had many moments of long hugs or hand-holding. This is something you don’t realize you need until you have a really bad day, or unless you are in a safe enough space where this becomes a normality. This week at Rythmia I made up for my lost time, there were a lot of healing hugs and in times of need, I had loving hands to hold. I am so grateful for all of my new friends that so quickly became my family ๐Ÿ’›

Five Things Friday: October 5

Hello my beautiful friends!

I hope you have had a lovely week so far ๐Ÿ˜Š Here are the highlights of mine:

Tea, please!

For the month of October I am partaking in a healthy challenge: #SoberOctober ๐ŸŽƒ I have given up coffee and alcohol and will be off of it for the entire month. So far I have really enjoyed the challenge ๐Ÿ˜Š It has me feeling refreshed and I have been sleeping deeper than I have in a very long time ๐Ÿ˜ดโœจ

Sh!t The Moon Said

This week I finished the physical book Sh!t The Moon Said,” by Gerard Armond Powell ๐Ÿ““ This was a very inspiring true story about changing your life for the better. Powell explains how when you are open to life’s experiences and life’s magic, you have the ability to reconnect to your soul and live your greatest, most authentic lifeย ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผย Packed full of wisdom, authenticity and change, I highly recommend this book๐ŸŒš

Sunshine in a Mediterranean Garden

I spent Wednesday poolside at the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria and what a dream it was. I swam, I read, I lounged… it was so peaceful and beautiful. The pool is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden filled with palm trees and umbrella pines – my favorites! ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒด The parrots were chirping in the trees and the sun was hot. It was the perfect day to dream, set goals and visualize my next chapter โœจ

Jo Malone London Event

On Thursday evening I attended the private Jo Malone event in Roma. The party was beautiful and of course smelled like magic! โœจ My favourite fragrances from Jo Malone is Mimosa & Cardamon and Lime, Basil & Mandarinย ๐Ÿง–๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ If you have never checked out Jo Malone London, I highly recommend it ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ

Reflection

I’ve been reflecting a lot this week before I leave Rome for 7-8 weeks. I’ve noticed the Universe clearing many things out that have actually hindered my growth without me consciously realizing it. However, I am happy to report I have approached these changes with a positive, growth mindset and can see a greater, more abundant future for myself. It is always important we actually learn our lessons the Universe is sending us. That is how we move forward.

Five Things Friday: September 28

Buongiorno Amici!

I hope you have all had a fantastic week. From Toscana back to Lazio, here are the highlights:

Flavours & Friendship!

On Friday I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful medieval tuscan town of Montepulciano with my friend Lorenzo ๐Ÿ˜„ Lorenzo took me to “Cantina Gattavecchi” which was hands down one of the best meals of my life ๐Ÿ I am so grateful to have shared such a great meal and day with someone so inspirational! Grazie Lorenzo and Buona Fortuna on your next chapter in Switzerland ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญโœจ

Fun in Tuscany!

Every time I visit Tuscany I always have the greatest adventures with my Fun in Tuscany family โค๏ธ A day spent with them is a day spent full of smiles and sunshine. I have no words to describe how much fuller my heart feels after a day spend with them. SO much gratitude. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ You can find some of our adventures here โ˜€๏ธ

Solo in Firenze

I came to Florence solo and I couldn’t be happier that I did. This trip was spontaneous – and of course, just what I needed at the perfect time. If you have ever visited Firenze you know how magical it is – sunsets along the river, the glowing streets and the breathtaking Duomo โœจ Tuscany has always taught me to say yes to life’s adventures and life’s magic. Thank you for always guiding me towards my biggest dreams ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

You Are A Badass

When I’m in need for a serious kick in the booty to knock procrastination out of the way and move forward towards my goals I always revisit the book “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero ๐Ÿ“’ This book is the one that really helped me believe it would be possible to move to Rome… and look at me here now, over two years later: in the window of my dream apartment, legal to stay for another year, blessed by so, so many experiences, people and things. It’s knowledge and inspiration that help us to reach our next levels. In this day and age we are so incredibly lucky to have all of this accessible to us at our fingertips ๐Ÿ“ฒ Could you use some inspiration this weekend or in the week ahead? ๐Ÿค” I highly recommend tuning into Jen Sincero’s You Are A Badass and/or You Are A Badass at Making Money on Blinkist! You can absorb each of these titles in 15 minutes or less ๐Ÿ˜Š Get your FREE 7 day trial from Blinkist here.

Remember…

“Remember the days you wished for the things you have now.” ๐Ÿ’› This quote is so powerful… You should know; I am not Little Miss Positive all the time, I have my dark sides too, as does everyone ๐ŸŒ— In times when I find myself frustrated, defeated, saddened, I always turn towards gratitude. Darkness cannot exist where there is light… bring forth the light. โ˜€๏ธ

Five Things Friday: Aug 31

Buongiorno Friends!

Can you believe it’s already the end of August! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Wow, wow, wow! Today I am off to Ibiza, Spain for Summer’s last hoorah with the girls ๐Ÿ˜Š Here’s what I’ve been up to this week in Rome:

Rollarblading!

Yes! As you guys may have already seen in this week’s episode of Zoey’s Diary, I have really been enjoying rollarblading. It reminds me so much of being a kid and it has proven to be an amazing outdoor workout ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜„ I hope I am still rollarblading over 80, just like our pal Franco! ๐Ÿ˜ย ย FUN FACT:ย one of our amazing friends, Irene, let me know Franco only started rollarblading when he was 59! Anything is possible my friends, anything.

Back to School

I didn’t mention it to you guys last week, but I am officially back to school in Rome! โ˜€๏ธ I am so excited about it because although it feels like it has been a long, slow journey of learning Italian it is a journey that I very much enjoy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น The pieces and rules of the language are connecting in my brain more and more every day – it’s a beautiful thing!

Gaby is hereeeee! ๐Ÿ˜„

I can’t believe I have only known this girl less than a year! Gaby and I actually met last year in Ibiza and have since then met up in San Diego, gone on a road trip to Tijuana and Ensenada and she’s come to visit me in Roma already once this year – at this rate we have infinite amounts of adventures in the future ๐Ÿ˜„โœˆ๏ธโ˜€๏ธ I am so grateful to have such an amazing friend and soul sister in my life ๐Ÿ’•

Roma by Night

I’m not sure if there’s anything more dreamy than Rome by night โœจ It’s been a while since I’d taken a good long walk in the evening to admire the beautifully lit buildings, monuments, live music and the exhibition along the Lungotevere. Gaby and I had a fun adventure down to Trastevere on Wednesday for a cocktail (or two) ๐Ÿน While the air is still warm and Summery I plan to do this more throughout September.

Being Girly Girls

Our house has been full of fun, fashion and laughter this week. Having Gaby here has added another sister to the mix so of course we have had so much fun exchanging clothes, dressing up and talking all about the Universe in our PJ’s. I can’t believe Summer is coming to an end, but what a special way to end it with my amazing girls ๐Ÿ’›โœจ

Off to Ibiza we go!

xx Zo

Five Things Friday: July 27

Hi Friends!

I hope you’re having a great week so far ๐Ÿ˜Š This week has been eventful from Roma to Toscana ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Here are the highlights:

Returning to Rome

Returning to Rome is one of my favourite experiences, but this time after returning from two full weeks in Croatia, it was different. This time when I returned, of course it felt like I was coming home, but it felt a little more solid (and exciting!) because I have a Permesso to stay… and I don’t plan on leaving, ever ๐Ÿ˜‰ I can’t describe this intense love I feel each time I get off the plane or the train, but it truly is one of the best emotions I have ever experienced. It feels like falling in love (I think?) I always look forward to re-experiencing it. Have you ever felt this way about a city? If you have, I hope it’s the one you call home ๐Ÿ˜Š

Learning About Love

Have you ever read The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman? ๐Ÿ“˜ I recently read this book on my favourite self-improvement app – Blinkist! ๐Ÿคฉ Gary discusses the feeling of love and his theories on the different languages in which people feel the love from their significant other. For me my love language (the way I most feel the affection and “love” of others) is when someone spends quality time with me ๐Ÿ’‘ I have always been a person who thrives off of meaningful conversations and experiences shared together so to me this makes sense! The other love languages include: Acts of Service, Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation and Gifts. Understanding your own love language and your partner’s love language can benefit your relationship in numerous ways as you truly will be able to communicate better on a different level ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ Which Love Language are you? If you have not yet read this book you can download it for free on a 7-day trial from Blinkist! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Click here to get it now!

Moonlight

Roma by moonlight is magic ๐ŸŒ• โœจ On Sunday night I joined friends for an amazing dinner and after walked around the eternal city ๐Ÿ› The beauty of this city so often stops me and I find myself gaping in awe and wonder – How beautiful, mysterious and enchanting is the Pantheon by night? I am still stunned even after two years and I’m sure I will be for the rest of this lifetime.

Piscine Termali Theia

Did you know Tuscany has natural spas? ๐Ÿ’ฆ On Thursday Anastasiya and I spent the day at Piscine Termali Theia – soaking up the sun โ˜€๏ธ and soaking in the Silene Spring water. The views were stunning and green and the air smelled of lavender as it was planted all around ๐ŸŒฟ This spa visit was the perfect combination of relaxing, rejuvenating and even historical as the Etruscans used to use this natural spring water to heal the body. These waters are rich in carbon dioxide and calcium carbonate which have an anti-inflammatory effect on the musculoskeletal system and are quite beneficial on the skin… and let me tell you, I felt it! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ

Terme Sensoriali

This morning started out like a dream โœจ I woke up in beautiful, scenic Tuscany ๐ŸŒป and got to spend the morning relaxing and energizing at Terme Sensoriali ๐Ÿคฉ (Sometimes I still need to pinch myself from this life I have created for myself… I am so grateful ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ ) This spa was especially unique because it wasn’t just a spa where you can have treatments ๐Ÿง–๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ – it was a spa with multiple treatment and experiential rooms! The sensory spa (in English) represents the perfect mix among the thermal experience, naturopathy and the enchanting Tuscan countryside. Some of my favourite experiences include an aromatherapy room, a shower of essential oils, a “river” where you can massage your feet on natural pebbles… it felt like an absolute dream and I can’t wait to share my travel diary with you and plan my next trip! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Five Things Friday: July 13th

Happy Friday the 13th Friends!

Don’t fear – We have a cheerful post ahead ๐Ÿ˜Š A week filled with sunshine, sea and smiles in Croazia!

REUNITED

Reunited with my GRANDE crew! ๐Ÿคฉ The last time Cheryl, Sofie an I were all together was in Amsterdam for VidCon. Each time we reunite it is like we have never spent any time apart. I am always so thankful the Universe brought me these Euro-YouTube Life-Genuine-GRANDE-friendships. ๐Ÿงก

Au Naturale

Even a year ago when I spent the summer backpacking Europe I felt very self-conscious about not wearing any makeup.

Makeup been a ritual every morning for me since I began experimenting with it as a teenager (Yup, experimenting is the right word – you bet I wore thick, black eyeliner on the bottom lid). Because I wore makeup more often than not – through school, corporate life, travel life – I don’t think I fully knew what I looked like without it, nor was I entirely comfortable without it.

When I moved back to Rome at the end of January (this year) I began to practice not wearing makeup every day. This sparked from being so relieved to have my Visa in hand and feeling grateful for the Universe working it all out in my favour that I took a big, long, reflective look in the mirror… and noticed that I looked absolutely exhausted.

It was a long trek back to Rome after living out of a suitcase for 8 Months – being fog-locked, having flights cancelled, snow storms – I saw it all – I suppose you could say it was the storm before the calm.

In that reflective moment in the mirror I decided it was time to give my skin a break, my face a break, myself a serious break. I needed to see my glow come back (I was in my favourite city after all! โ˜€๏ธ) From then on and in present times I only wear makeup when I have a special occasion or genuinely feel like being creative with my appearance. It has allowed for a new respect for myself to blossom. Every day I am more comfortable with me because on a visual level I see me more. Makeup might sound silly to some of you, but for me letting go of it more regularly has allowed for a lot more clarity, not only in my skin, but for me too.

Spritzin’ with Penelope!

This week was full of laughter and Penelope was definitely responsible for some good bursts of it! ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿฆ„ I think we all need to be a kid now and again. I’m happy I was able to let go of responsibilities and worries on this trip (for the most part) and live in the moment… I felt like a kid again and it was special because I realize it’s been far too long. I’m sorry for not posting on YouTube this week – I will be back again soon โค๏ธ

Hula Hula in HVAR

This. Is. Us. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜„ More and more laughter here in Hvar ๐Ÿ“ธ We had a grande night out – dancing by the sea, sharing a giant mojito and enjoying one of the best sunsets I have ever seen ๐ŸŒžThese moments will live in my memories forever. Thanks for making this trip so grande Amores!

Thank-you MedSailors!

Thank you so much to MedSailors for the amazing week at sea ๐Ÿ˜Š A week exploring Croatia with our Captain Jo and the MedSailors crew was the perfect combination of adventure, relaxation, touring and fun! โ˜€๏ธ I can’t wait to share my Travel Diaries with you. Croatia has so much natural beauty, I know you’re going to love it! For anyone wanting to explore the beautiful parts of this world by the sea MedSailors offers tours in Croatia, Greece, Italy, Turkey and the Caribbean! ๐Ÿคฉ I can’t wait to see more of this world by boat! โ›ต๏ธ

Five Things Friday: June 22

Ciao Amici!

I hope you’ve had a magical week ๐Ÿ˜Š From Tuscany to Corfu back to Lazio, here are the highlights:

FUN IN TUSCANY FAMILY

Last Summer I had the pleasure of collaborating with Fun in Tuscany on a Tuscany Travel Diary (wine tour) which was the time of my life! Little did I know I would meet some of the best people this life has to offer! The entire team at Fun in Tuscany are full of positive energy and inspirationย ๐Ÿ˜Šย A day spent with them is a day spent in pure sunshineย โ˜€๏ธ

Grazie Toscana

Tuscany is a magical place – if you’ve ever visited you will know. The rolling green hills, the beautifully painted landscapes and skies… I could go on. This day in Tuscany provoked a lot of reflection for me – how far I have come in a year, what next steps towards my goals will entail, etc. I am excited for the future and all of the gifts I know it will bring. Grazie Toscana ๐Ÿ˜Šโ˜€๏ธ

Back to Corfu

Last year while Jenn was visiting from Canada we visited the Greek Island of Corfu. Corfu is a popular tourist destination in Greece because of its beautiful green mountains and sandy beaches (if you’re a young adult it’s also known as a party island ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜œ). Jenn and I had a great time last year relaxing on the beach with Mythos and Greek snacks. When we visited One Fire beach on the Amalfi Coast Jenn and I were feeling extra-spontaneous so we decided to check out the Skyscanner app to see where we could go in Greece for the least amount of money. We ended up booking a trip to Corfu right then and there (flights & accommodation) for only 120 Euros ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ Adventures don’t have to be expensive. Here are my tips for booking a Eurotrip.

Kitten Cuddles

This is Gyro (pronounced yee-row). This is my little Corfu kitten ๐Ÿค—. On my last evening in Corfu I sat outside on the balcony stealing wifi to send some emails when this little angel came by to say hello. I named him Gyro (after my favourite beach snack ๐Ÿ˜‹) and played with him for the evening. The gentleman at the front desk came out to tell me that Gyro was actually disowned by his mother because he was the runt of the litter ๐Ÿ˜ฅ I instantly wanted to bring him back to Roma with me! The next morning I went out to the front balcony to see if he was still there and sure enough he was – charismatic as ever! (you can see in my Corfu Instagram Highlight ๐Ÿ˜ป). One of the women from the front desk came out when I was playing with him to tell me she was going to be adopting him and taking him home that evening ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ This is a reminder that we must always give love โค๏ธ To animals, to people, to nature. We never know what anyone’s story is so we should always choose to love.

It’s always sunny above the clouds

On my flight back to Rome from Corfu for the first time ever I had the very front seat of the plane, this meant LEG ROOM! And of course a clear, wing-less view outside of the window โ˜€๏ธ I had intended to work the entire flight; however the view captivated me so much I spent the entire flight in a kind of meditation – watching the clouds, reflecting on life… it was magic and just what I needed. I made the connection that it is always sunny above the clouds. It was clear that below us in the plane there were some dark clouds causing rain, however just above these clouds was the view above. This is how it is in life as well. We all must go through rain clouds at some points, but if we are strong enough and choose to rise above we will always be greeted with sunshine โ˜€๏ธ Wherever you are now don’t give up and remember to always seek the sunshine, it’s only ever just above your cloud.

Five Things Friday: May 25

Hi Friends!

Today I am writing you from Porto, Portugal! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น I have just arrived so you will have to wait for pictures until next week ๐Ÿ˜‰ but here are some highlights from the eternal city:

I took myself out

On Sunday I took myself out. As you know I have been making more and more of a conscious effort to live in the now and of course be what I wish to attract in this world โ˜€๏ธ I had no place to be, but instead of starting off the day with work I decided to put myself together and take myself out for a frappรจ at Sant Eustacchio il Caffe. After that I took a beautiful walk around the city ๐ŸŒธ Actively taking the time to pursue living in the now can do wonders for your productivity ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Rising & Shining

Since being back from my amazing trip to Jordan as mentioned last week it’s been petal to the metal with time management and projects ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ’ป As you may know if you checked out my recent Morning Routineย video on YouTube I normally start my day between 5-6 AM. I have been plugging into Blinkist to help motivate me to be productive and make positive choices throughout the day and one book I want to take the time to recommend to you is The Miracle Morning. In less than 15 minutes I promise you will be inspired to start your day early and excited about it! Don’t believe me? Blinkist is offering my friends a 7-day free trial, try it out here:ย https://bit.ly/2G4vf5X *Special thanks to Blinkist for sponsoring today’s post.

Castel Sant’Angelo

Did you know Rome has a castle? ๐Ÿฐ On Tuesday my amazing friend Elyssa (from Romewise) invited me to check out Castel Sant’Angelo. This was my first time visiting the castle and I already can’t wait to go back. Castel Sant’Angelo is also known as Hadrian’s Mausoleum and was constructed in 135 AD! Always, always, always my mind is continually blown by the history of the Roman Empire. Inside is beautiful and if you wish to see more you can check out my Instagram highlights ๐Ÿคณ๐Ÿผ This photo above was taken by Elyssa in the castle bar where I highly recommend you stop for an Aperitivo after your tour. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ˜Š

Billion Baby Turtles

This week I launched my first fundraising campaign for baby sea turtle hatchlings ๐Ÿข 6 out of 7 species of sea turtles are endangered and only 1/10 hatchlings survive โ—๏ธ These facts are both shocking and upsetting, which is why I have partnered with SEE Turtles to raise money for their Billion Baby Turtles project. For every dollar raised up to 5 hatchlings can be saved. I have created tee shirts, tank tops and tote bags where all of the proceeds will go towards Billion Baby Turtles. If merchandise isn’t your thing you can also donate to the cause via GoFundMe. Please consider taking the time to donate in some way or become more aware ๐Ÿ‘ For additional information you can check out my YouTube video.

Salute Summer

As I mentioned last week Summer has arrived here in Rome, regardless of what the calendar says ๐Ÿ“† The sun is out and the adventures have begun! โ˜€๏ธ This week my best friend Aaron arrived from Canada and I am currently writing you from Porto, Portugal with a fun group of friends! ๐Ÿค— Although the sun isn’t out in Porto at the moment I feel like I am surrounded by it anyways. Good people = good vibes ๐Ÿ’›

Five Things Friday: May 4

Ciao Friends!

Hello from Jordan this Friday. It has been an amazing week exploring this beautiful country. Here are my highlights:

Discovering Ancient Roman Ruins in Jerash

I love it when I can find little pieces of Rome scattered amongst the world – wether it be in Verona, Umm Qays or here in Jerash I never get tired of seeing what the Romans were capable of so long ago. It feels as if I am putting together pieces of their exciting, yet mysterious lives… Personally, I think they had the help of aliens ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ‘ฝ… But regardless, they were so incredibly intelligent. What are your favourite Roman ruins? Is there somewhere else I need to visit?

A Night on Mars

On Sunday night we stayed in the Martian tents in the Wadi Rum Desert. This was such an amazing experience – from the sights –ย  to the vibes – to the kindness of the people, this was an unforgettable experience. We spent the afternoon and evening 4x4ing through the desert, then finding a place to watch the sunset. In the evening we had a Zarp feast which means that the food cooked on a rack in the ground for 4 hours (these were the best potatoes and carrots of my life, but don’t tell my Dad). Once the stars began to come out we stargazed through a giant telescope and were able to see the moon (much more clearly of course), Jupiter, Polaris and some clusters of stars. It was incredible.

Petra

The week started off great exploring Petra. The photo above gives you a glimpse through The Siq at The Treasury. Seeing The Treasury in person was truly stunning – it glowed just as you can see in the picture. I cannot wait to share this travel diary with you. For more from Petra and my time in Jordan so far, don’t miss out on my Instagram Highlights!

Rest & Relaxation at The Dead Sea

Now THIS is the order you need to plan your trip to Jordan – Dead Sea POST Petra because let me tell you how much walking, hiking and climbing (24KM) around Petra takes a toll on you (even for someone who visits the gym regularity) ๐Ÿ˜œ On another note, this trip has allowed for a lot of time living in the now. Being able to spend some time resting and relaxing has allowed me to reflect on my life and what I wish to change about myself and my life moving forward. Every day grants us a new beginning so it is important for us to allow ourselves to grow and reach new levels each day ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Tea in a Bedouin Tent

There is so much happiness in the simplicity. This morning I was lucky enough to experience tea with a local-to-Feynan Bedouin family in their tent ๐ŸŒฟ The family has been living this way for over 100 years; in a tent within the mountains of Wadi Feynan. We were welcomed so warm-heartedly on our walk-by ๐Ÿ’› We spent the morning drinking tea with them and learning (as best as we could) about their lifestyle. These are the kind of moments that bring so much joy to my heart I felt and still feel as though it could burst. I will treat you to a couple extra photos this week just because these moments were so special to me:

Ali, my new friend and behind us, his grandmother

Ali’s toy car, made out of a sardine can, nails and bottle caps

The view from their home

I hope you find beauty and happiness within “the simple things” this week.
