Today I am writing you from bella Roma! I hope your week has been fantastic 🙂 here are some of my highlights:
Blogger Lunch @ Clotilde
On Friday a few of us Blogger-gals were invited for a lunch at Clotilde. This was a very special Lunch because Saskia from Blog Ciao Tutti was in town from Amsterdam. It was so great to finally meet her because I had heard so many wonderful things! 😊 We all enjoyed a wonderful lunch filled with delicious food and deep glasses of red wine 🍷 I just love getting together with like-minded people to discuss all things Italy! For more on this special lunch and last weekend you can check out my Zoey’s Diary 27: First Weekend in the New Apartment! ✨
A Gatsby Night Out
On Monday night Anastasiya and I attended the launch of Zeglu (zero-gluten alternatives 🍝). Food is a very important subject here in Italy (as you can imagine 😉) so of course this even was #Grande! The woman in the photo above was walking around on stilts and we had a wonderfully entertaining opera show! The whole event felt right out of The Great Gatsby (minus Leo, where was he??). The vlog will be up early next week so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for it 👀✨
This week I was lucky enough to find not only one new coffee shop which suits my working needs, but TWO! 😍 Both of which carry vegan treats! 🥐 I feel like the luckiest girl in the world 🍀. Even though I adore my new apartment, sometimes I need an alternative working space to keep things interesting and productive (not to mention the upload speed at my place is a little non-existent 😅). By the way, I have changed my YouTube upload schedule to: Monday, Wednesday and Friday @ 11:00 AM CET for Spring and Summer… with the occasional surprise upload on Sunday 😉 hint hint!
The SUN came out this week. Not just that, “Oh, it’s sunny,” it was that, “OMG-TODAY-FEELS-LIKE-SUMMER SUN!!!” ☀️ Maybe I’m getting a little ahead of myself, but it definitely felt like primavera this week (which is “Spring” 🌷 in Italian). Anastasiya and I took full advantage by planning a fun golden hour photoshoot 😊✨
This week I had a couple amazing manifestation walks – if you don’t know what I mean by that you can check out this video. I can’t wait to share the story of how we manifested our apartment with all of you, because it really feels like magic! ✨ I can’t believe I get to walk outside my door into my old desktop wallpapers each day 😍 Sometimes when you’re feeling lack all it takes is a little stroll, a ray of sunshine and the sight of some fresh flowers (it’s all about the little things). No one knows what tomorrow brings, next week or even next year. All we have is right now. Take the time to feel grateful for all you have in this life, and all you have had the opportunity to experience. Bask in THAT abundance… 💐💛
I hope you have all had a wonderful week! Mine was quite eventful from London to Rome so here’s what happened:
If you didn’t know from last week’s blog I spent 5 days in London for a self-improvement course over the weekend. This course was quite intensive (13 hours per day for the full 3 days). Because of the intensity I only really had the morning on my final day to explore the cosmopolitan city, you can find my Travel Diary here. I was lucky enough to manifest the perfect weather to top off a very transformative trip 😊 I can happily say life will never be the same! I sure love learning, especially in the self-improvement category.
We Moved in a Taxi
Yes, you got that right. If you’ve been following along on Anastasiya and I’s apartment hunting ventures, you would know it has been far from easy. However; in the end we ended up manifesting the perfect space (seriously we manifested every detail!). The lesson or key 🔑 here is to learn to let go. When we finally began to relax about our house-hunt and let go of the dream flat we felt was out of our reach; it came back to us. Video on this all coming soon, including footage of us moving in a taxi 🚕 (you know you’re minimalist when 😝).
Waking up in Rome
As much as I love seeing this world, nothing compares to waking up in Rome, the city of my heart ❤️ (this is the view from my new window). London was great, but I was happy to return to Rome just in time to spend an evening with Cheryl, Sarah and Matthias. We had great chats about the eternal city, life and future adventures 🌎 I am so grateful to have such amazing people in my life. Friends who are relatively “new,” but admirable, inspiring and authentic 😊✨ In case you missed it, here is a Collab us girls did on Sarah’s channel!
International Women’s Day
This International Women’s Day I worked for the entire day in my PJ’s (showered of course 😉🚿) then spent a lovely evening celebrating with two of the most inspiring women in my life. Trust Elyssa from RomeWise.com to show us everything we need to know about our new “hood.” She took us to all the cutest places from a wine bar that looks like a library – to a fancy hotel with cute waiters – to another hotel bar with a secret garden where all of the locals hang out. I am so grateful for my “Roma Family,” these sisters have changed my life 💛 Every day the special women in our lives deserve to be celebrated!
Quiet Moments to Myself
I love living in Rome (did you know? 😋), but really, this city grants me so many precious moments. This photo is from one moment that took my breath away. Sometimes in Rome, you feel you have the whole city to yourself because a stunning view stops you and you have no choice but to stop, admire, feel gratitude and of course snap a photo. Gratefulness comes so easily to me here as each day I am presented with the manifestation of a dream… I can’t believe 2 years ago I was sitting at a desk (unhappy and unfulfilled) staring at a desktop wallpaper of Rome each day and now I get to live it. Keep the faith 🙏🏼 Your dreams are manifesting.
I hope you all had a wonderful week. This morning I am writing you from snowy London, but before snowy London there was SNOWY ROME! For real…
On Saturday my amazing friend Elyssa (@RomeWise) and I went to Romeow Cat Bistrot. This is a vegan cat cafe/restaurant in Rome! The food as absolutely delicious and we of course spent the day surrounded by furry little ones, just like the one above! (I actually have a video up on my channel of my first visit here). After lunch we hung around for a few hours working on inspiring projects before heading out for Aperitivo. We’re always working, but always make sure we find the time to slow down and enjoy ourselves in la dolce vita.
Later on Saturday night something wonderful happened… The Colosseum was RED! If you know me you know I love the colour red. I had never seen anything like this before in my life so it was the cherry on top of the perfect day in my citta 🍒 With Roma being so rainy lately there were a lot of puddles around to take some amazing photos… Even though I’m not the biggest fan, rain can sure make things even more beautiful.
Snow in Rome!
It’s true! It snowed in Rome this week. Many things have been uncertain in life this past month – my living situation, school, what’s next, etc. and I truly believe Roma snowed to remind us all to keep believing in the magic ❄️✨ You can see more footage of the snow on my YouTube channel.
A Walk & A New Book
After the snow stopped falling from the sky, of course the Roman sun did not fail us. Around 16:30 on our snow day I ventured out for a little walk to see what was left of the cold, white stuff, and to pick myself up a book I have been wanting to read for a while: The Agony and the Ecstasy: A Biographical Novel of Michelangelo. Although it was quite cold, the views were stunning making my trek so very worth it. It almost took a little toll on my brain too – my eyes could not comprehend I was looking at palm trees and umbrella pines covered in snow! If you’ve ever visited Rome in the Summer you most likely can’t even imagine how it could ever snow here! ☀️☃️
An Evening Out Before London
On Wednesday evening Anastasiya (@Anastasiya_Craze) and I visited a cute wine bar we just so happened to stumble upon in Monti, we followed this up by some pasta of course! This evening was to celebrate letting go of what no longer serves us and embarking on new beginnings. This evening was full of heartfelt stories and conversations about life. I am so blessed to have “family” here in Rome ♥️
PS. London, I’ve arrived! If you weren’t already aware I am in London for an intensive course on self-improvement. More on this next week😊
Ciao Friends 🙂
I spent this past week in Paris & Rome. Here are a few highlights:
Views inspire me. This view from Le Perchoir was pure magic. I get both speechless and emotional when I am met with a beautiful view as it always brings me into the now – especially when it is painted with a sunset. I remember specifically looking at this view and thinking, “I live my dream life. I am in the city of Paris at a rooftop bar surrounded by amazing and kind people.” Of course not everything is perfect – I have student debt, I can’t legally stay in Europe longer than September and I could definitely use a tan 😝, but this is life! If we had it all laid out for us on a silver platter what fun would that be? There is wonder, mystery, suspense and fulfillment in the journey. Stop and look at the view from the where you’re at today… you’ve made it.
I’ve met some of the best friends I have ever had in my life this past year. Friendships that are more like sisterhood. There is no competition, no jealousy, simply love and support to encourage each other to become their better, truest selves. For this I am eternally grateful. I would not continue to grow as a person at the rate I am without my sisters in life. Merci Beaucoup 🙂
This week in Italian school my teacher explained she has begun to watch TV in English to learn it better. She said “I see,” is one of the most beautiful phrases she has ever heard. In Italian, the way you would say, “I see” in conversation would directly translate to “I understand.” She said to respond to someone with “I see,” when they are explaining their thoughts and feelings is so incredibly beautiful because you are expressing an understanding that reaches their soul through the eyes. I am not sure if I have ever looked at those two words pieced together that way, but from now on I will. Try to use “I see,” in a different way this week. After all,“Eyes are the window to the soul.”
The First Author
I received some amazing news from my publisher this week: I am the first Author to have an Amazon store in both Canada and the UK. There is already authors (like myself) with stores set up in the US, however your girl Zo is first to set up shop in 🇨🇦 and 🇬🇧, next up is 🇫🇷 and 🇮🇹! I will keep you posted on this journey 😊
Freshly Pressed Pomegranate
Sometimes it’s the little things… my school is near Campo Dei Fiori and often when I am finished studying for the day I will walk through the market to pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables, or just simply admire my surroundings and absorb the energy of Rome. If you have ever visited Campo you know it contains a marvellous type of energy: chaotic, a little messy, yet beautiful and honest. Next time you visit I suggest getting something freshly pressed!
Or should I say “Bonjour!” I am actually writing you from Paris today. This week has been amazing and eventful. Here’s what I got up to:
I can never pass up an invitation to rediscover my favourite city! On Saturday my wonderful friend Elyssa (@Romewise) invited me to explore the Colosseum. This wasn’t my first time here (I do have a video of that if you would like to check it out!) but it never ceases to amaze me. The Romans are and always have been incredible people. I am always inspired when I think of the things they accomplished so long ago. Have you ever visited the Colosseum?
On Sunday my amazing friend Sofie (@sofies.world) came over for one of our “Content Days.” These are days when we bust out multiple videos for YouTube! It’s always fun (and funny!). We already have a couple of videos up from our day including “10 Italian Foods That Don’t Exist in Italy” and “North Americans Try Italian Tongue Twisters!” These days are awesome because they remind me of one of the wonderful gifts youtube has given me: Friendship! It blows my mind I’ve only known Sof since June – it feels like I’ve known her forever!
This was a week of Roman history! All thanks to Elyssa 😊 On Monday I went from school, to the gym, to the Vatican (I can’t believe I can even say that!) Pinch me! Elyssa is definitely what I would consider an expert on the city of Rome (visiting or living). She has tons of fantastic information on her blog, especially on how to explore Rome best ( which is how we visited the Vatican with minimal lines!) Above is a photo of “The Nile.” Look at the details… There are no words, it is stunning. I think this is one of my favourite pieces of art in the Vatican.
Made it on TV!
No, not YouTube streamed on television, actual television! This photo is a Snapchat screenshot from one of my friends. Noah and I were featured on the Viralist on “The List” for our taste test video of 13 of Mexico’s HOTTEST Hot Sauces! You can find the article following up the show here 😊 I’m curious, did you see it in real-time?
As mentioned above I am writing you from beautiful Paris, France! If you were following along with the 12 Days of Christmas on YouTube, my gift to Cheryl (@nonstopparis) was tickets to Kygo! We had the best “Galentine’s Day” EVER! Kygo played an amazing show and had multiple special guests. If you get the chance to see him on his “Kids In Love” Tour, I highly recommend it.
I hope you all had a #GRANDE week! 😀 Despite having a pretty bad cold, I have some fun highlights to share:
Cena con Rodelio
On Friday evening I caught up with one of my amazing friends here in Rome, chef Rodelio, also known as The Food Buddha. This dinner was filled with amazing food and conversations all about life journeys and what we hope to accomplish in 2018. I am so grateful for all of my friends here in Rome, as I feel a sense of family now – family who all share the same love for Rome. Fun coincidence: Rodelio has taken the same self-improvement course I am enrolled in in London in a couple of weeks!
The Tangerine Lining
I had had been battling a cough and cold from back in Canada and this week it finally caught up with me. Unfortunately this put a few things in my life on hold, but on the positive side it is citrus season in Italy! I have enjoyed spoiling myself with nature’s candy 🍊 Have you ever tried an Italian orange? Or a glass of freshly squeezed Italian orange juice? If you haven’t yet, you MUST put it on your bucket list! Italian oranges taste like sunshine ☀️ – that’s the only way I can give any kind of justice to their description. There is always a silver lining in every unpleasant situation, in this case it is tangerine in colour.
Back to School!
Back to school! I never thought I would ever say that… Life surprises you sometimes doesn’t it? I’ve actually been more excited to attend school this week than I ever have in my entire life. I am loving learning more about my favourite language. Italian is so beautiful it feels like I am studying art, I suppose I am. 😊
The Universe’s Gym
I took a few days off of the gym because I was sick. When I was ready to go back I decided to attend a 15 minute spin class followed by a 15 minute stretching class to ease myself back into it… or so I thought. I raced to the gym from school on Wednesday to make it to spin on time. I was parched when I arrived, but thought I would be fine for 15 minutes. It turns out there was actually a typo on the class schedule and the 15 minute spin class (I thought I was in for) was actually a 55 minute INTENSIVE class! Here’s to jumping back in head first! 🤣 “The Universe always has a plan much greater than yours,” and in this case the Universe did not want me cutting corners on my goal of hitting a minimum of 3 classes per week. 😉
My Italian Little Brothers
Yesterday evening I went to visit my Italian family! 😊 This is the family that I au-paired for when I first arrived in Roma. I brought my Italian little brothers these little Kinder Sorpresa (as they are their favourite) and they showed me all of their new toys from the holidays! We played Best Fiends and watched one of their favourite movies right now: The Emoji Movie 😋 …Oh to be a kid again! These trilingual little ones continue to inspire me, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with them while I am here. Hopefully soon, I will be able to speak Italian with them!
I hope you all had a lovely week and are enjoying following along on my blogging adventures. Here are some of the highlights from my week:
Last weekend I headed up to Blue Mountain for a weekend away from the city with Steph, Dan & Effy. We had a great weekend full of laughs, snowboarding, hot-tubbing and relaxing. I hadn’t been snowboarding since my teens and I was surprised at how well I adapted and how the day went! The time away from the bustling city was just what I needed after the bouts of nervousness I faced in regards to my Visa application process; however…
My Italian VISA
Friends, I got it! 😀 Words can not express my gratitude and relief for this. My dream and goal of becoming fluent in Italian is one step closer! In just a few days I will be getting off of a plane in my favourite city in the world: Rome. Thank you to all of you for your kind wishes and motivation in this process. Next Friday I am excited to say I will be writing you from Italia.
Quiet Time in The Beaches
The Beaches is one of my very favourite neighbourhoods in Toronto (and the world). It is on the very East side of the city of Toronto and yes, it has beaches! My amazing friend Manesha and her beautiful family live here. I had the pleasure of staying with them for a few days this week. Our time was spent walking, exploring, cooking, laughing, drinking insanely-chocolatey hot chocolate and talking, talking, talking – all about life’s most wonderful experiences. So very grateful for this special time and for the meaningful friendships in my life.
My Red Plaid Pyjamas
I only own one pair of pyjamas. I own a few nighties, but only one pair of actual top-and-bottom pyjamas. I previously wore a black satin pair of button-up PJs I purchased from Oysho in Barcelona over the Summer, but late last week I tossed them into a warm wash by accident and they came out much smaller (whoops)! I gave them to my friend Manesha and I picked out a new pair of comfy Ralph Lauren PJ’s from The Bay, downtown Toronto. These were an amazing scoop! They are incredibly soft and comfortable and we’re marked down to only $30 – I LOVE them!
The Ability to Let Go
This week a very common theme was letting go. Letting go of how well my application was filled out for my Visa, the outcome of what would show up in my passport, what YouTube would think if showed my most vulnerable photos and took my makeup off in front of the camera, old, worn-out thoughts and limiting beliefs. The truth is they have no place here in 2018. This is the time of leaping out of comfort zones and letting go of outcomes. Worrying is only *trying* to Manifest poor outcomes – when you think of it like that, you’ll practice doing whatever it takes to let go of the thoughts that no longer serve you. Let go and be free.
