Five Things Friday: July 13th

Happy Friday the 13th Friends!

Don’t fear – We have a cheerful post ahead 😊 A week filled with sunshine, sea and smiles in Croazia!

REUNITED

Reunited with my GRANDE crew! 🀩 The last time Cheryl, Sofie an I were all together was in Amsterdam for VidCon. Each time we reunite it is like we have never spent any time apart. I am always so thankful the Universe brought me these Euro-YouTube Life-Genuine-GRANDE-friendships. 🧑

Au Naturale

Even a year ago when I spent the summer backpacking Europe I felt very self-conscious about not wearing any makeup.

Makeup been a ritual every morning for me since I began experimenting with it as a teenager (Yup, experimenting is the right word – you bet I wore thick, black eyeliner on the bottom lid). Because I wore makeup more often than not – through school, corporate life, travel life – I don’t think I fully knew what I looked like without it, nor was I entirely comfortable without it.

When I moved back to Rome at the end of January (this year) I began to practice not wearing makeup every day. This sparked from being so relieved to have my Visa in hand and feeling grateful for the Universe working it all out in my favour that I took a big, long, reflective look in the mirror… and noticed that I looked absolutely exhausted.

It was a long trek back to Rome after living out of a suitcase for 8 Months – being fog-locked, having flights cancelled, snow storms – I saw it all – I suppose you could say it was the storm before the calm.

In that reflective moment in the mirror I decided it was time to give my skin a break, my face a break, myself a serious break. I needed to see my glow come back (I was in my favourite city after all! β˜€οΈ) From then on and in present times I only wear makeup when I have a special occasion or genuinely feel like being creative with my appearance. It has allowed for a new respect for myself to blossom. Every day I am more comfortable with me because on a visual level I see me more. Makeup might sound silly to some of you, but for me letting go of it more regularly has allowed for a lot more clarity, not only in my skin, but for me too.

Spritzin’ with Penelope!

This week was full of laughter and Penelope was definitely responsible for some good bursts of it! πŸ˜œπŸ¦„ I think we all need to be a kid now and again. I’m happy I was able to let go of responsibilities and worries on this trip (for the most part) and live in the moment… I felt like a kid again and it was special because I realize it’s been far too long. I’m sorry for not posting on YouTube this week – I will be back again soon ❀️

Hula Hula in HVAR

This. Is. Us. πŸ€£πŸ˜„ More and more laughter here in Hvar πŸ“Έ We had a grande night out – dancing by the sea, sharing a giant mojito and enjoying one of the best sunsets I have ever seen 🌞These moments will live in my memories forever. Thanks for making this trip so grande Amores!

Five Things Friday: February 9th

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all had a #GRANDE week! πŸ˜€ Despite having a pretty bad cold, I have some fun highlights to share:

Cena con Rodelio

On Friday evening I caught up with one of my amazing friends here in Rome, chef Rodelio, also known as The Food Buddha. This dinner was filled with amazing food and conversations all about life journeys and what we hope to accomplish in 2018. I am so grateful for all of my friends here in Rome, as I feel a sense of family now – family who all share the same love for Rome. Fun coincidence: Rodelio has taken the same self-improvement course I am enrolled in in London in a couple of weeks!

The Tangerine Lining

I had had been battling a cough and cold from back in Canada and this week it finally caught up with me. Unfortunately this put a few things in my life on hold, but on the positive side it is citrus season in Italy! I have enjoyed spoiling myself with nature’s candy 🍊 Have you ever tried an Italian orange? Or a glass of freshly squeezed Italian orange juice? If you haven’t yet, you MUST put it on your bucket list! Italian oranges taste like sunshine β˜€οΈ – that’s the only way I can give any kind of justice to their description. There is always a silver lining in every unpleasant situation, in this case it is tangerine in colour.

Back to School!

Back to school! I never thought I would ever say that… Life surprises you sometimes doesn’t it? I’ve actually been more excited to attend school this week than I ever have in my entire life. I am loving learning more about my favourite language. Italian is so beautiful it feels like I am studying art, I suppose I am. 😊

The Universe’s Gym

I took a few days off of the gym because I was sick. When I was ready to go back I decided to attend a 15 minute spin class followed by a 15 minute stretching class to ease myself back into it… or so I thought. I raced to the gym from school on Wednesday to make it to spin on time. I was parched when I arrived, but thought I would be fine for 15 minutes. It turns out there was actually a typo on the class schedule and the 15 minute spin class (I thought I was in for) was actually a 55 minute INTENSIVE class! Here’s to jumping back in head first! 🀣 “The Universe always has a plan much greater than yours,” and in this case the Universe did not want me cutting corners on my goal of hitting a minimum of 3 classes per week. πŸ˜‰

My Italian Little Brothers

Yesterday evening I went to visit my Italian family! 😊 This is the family that I au-paired for when I first arrived in Roma. I brought my Italian little brothers these little Kinder Sorpresa (as they are their favourite) and they showed me all of their new toys from the holidays! We played Best Fiends and watched one of their favourite movies right now: The Emoji Movie πŸ˜‹Β …Oh to be a kid again! These trilingual little ones continue to inspire me, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with them while I am here. Hopefully soon, I will be able to speak Italian with them!
